United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) jointly launched a program Thursday for promoting ecosystem management and green economic development in developing countries, particularly in Africa.

The program titled "International Ecosystem Management Partnership (IEMP)," is a China-based global program tasked with gathering research findings in ecological fields and providing support to the governments' policy making in environmental issues.

The program will conduct surveys and make assessments on the global monitoring and research capacities on ecosystems, as well as find the best solutions for capacity building of African countries.

Achim Steiner, U.N. deputy secretary general and executive director of UNEP, said at the launching ceremony that the organization is committed to working with developing countries.

Ding Zhongli, vice president of the CAS, said at the ceremony that IEMP must include scientists from other countries, especially developing countries.
