Zimbabwe to set up reserve to protect African wild dogs

0 Comment(s)Print E-mail Xinhua, September 6, 2015

A wild dog is seen in the Save Valley Conservancy, southeast Zimbabwe, on Sept. 1, 2015. African wild dogs, also known as painted dogs or Cape hunting dogs, are one of Africa's most endangered large carnivore, with its number in the continent dropping from 500,000 to current 7,000 in recent decades. Today, African wild dogs can be found in shrinking woodlands in eastern and southern African countries, most noticeably Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, and Kenya. In Zimbabwe, home to 700 African wild dogs, two conservancies were established aiming to study and protect this endangered species. [Photo/Xinhua]
