Bangladesh will seek 700 billion taka (about 10 billion U.S. dollars) from the international community at the Copenhagen conference to deal with the impacts of climate change, leading English newspaper The Daily Star said on Friday.

The parliamentary standing committee on environment and forest ministry at a meeting in Parliament on Thursday discussed the preparation for raising demands at the conference as Bangladesh will be one of the worst victims of climate change.

"We shall demand 700 billion taka including 380 billion taka ( about 5.4 billion U.S. dollars) for dredging the rivers," committee chief Abdul Momin Talukder Thursday told a press briefing after the meeting.

He said 19 percent of the country's lands would go under water because of climate change.

Members of the parliamentary body will attend the conference in Copenhagen of Denmark from Dec. 7 to 18.
