Proposal made for Sino-Cambodian relations

China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin made a proposal in Phnom Penh Thursday for the comprehensive development of Sino-Cambodian relations.

Jia made the proposal at a celebration marking the 50th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties, which was attended by over 500 people from both sides.

Jia proposed that the two sides should consolidate bilateral traditional friendship, enhance mutual trust, push forward economic and trade cooperation for common development, promote cultural exchanges, and strengthen coordination in multi-lateral affairs to safeguard common interests.

In his speech titled "Strengthen Traditional Friendship and Build A Better Future Together" delivered at the celebration, Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), spoke highly of bilateral good neighborly friendship and cooperation.

He said the Chinese government attaches great importance to its relations with Cambodia, and will work with Cambodia to further promote the long-term and sound growth of bilateral comprehensive and cooperative partnership.

Jia, who arrived in Phnom Penh Tuesday on an official goodwill visit as guest of Cambodian Senate President Chea Sim, said he believes that bilateral relations are bound to have a better future.

Cambodia is the last leg of Jia's four-nation visit which has taken him to Jordan, Turkey and Laos.
