Hamas: factions determined to reunite
Adjust font size:

?A Hamas official on Tuesday said Palestinian factions are determined to broker a reconciliation deal that leads to forming a unity government.

"The factions will not leave Egypt before reaching the national reconciliation," said Mushier al-Massri, a Hamas lawmaker based in Gaza.

His remarks were made on the eve of the meeting of five expert committees that will settle the controversial issues between Hamas and president Mahmoud Abbas Fatah movement.

Palestinian officials, leaders and independents will meet Tuesday to discuss the issues of forming a government, holding elections, reforming security services, reforming the Palestinian Liberation Organizations and achieving the reconciliation.

Meanwhile, al-Massri said that the second round of talks "will outline detailed agenda for the nature of the near future and drawing up solutions for any potential future problems."

The ultimate goal of the Egyptian-sponsored dialogue is to reunite the Palestinians who were caught in the middle of Hamas- Fatah power struggle. The sought unity government would overcome Hamas' administration in Gaza and the Abbas-backed government in West Bank.
