China slams Clinton's remarks on 'June 4'
Adjust font size:

China on Thursday expressed strong dissatisfaction and resolute opposition to U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's remarks on the 20th anniversary of the events of June 4.

"As to the political turmoil and problems that happened in the late 1980s, the Communist Party of China and the Chinese government have already made a clear conclusion," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said at a regular press conference, responding to a question on a statement released by Clinton on Wednesday.

China had made great achievements in economic and social development since the country initiated its reform and opening up?30 years ago, he said.

Facts had proved that the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics suited the national conditions of China, complied with the fundamental interests of the overwhelming majority of the Chinese people, and reflected the aspirations of all Chinese people, Qin said.

The remarks from the U.S. disregard the facts, and made random accusations against the Chinese government. The remarks violated basic norms governing the international relations as well as principles set forth in the three China-U.S. joint communiques, grossly interfering in China's internal affairs, Qin said.

"We urge the U.S. side to put aside its political prejudices and correct its wrong-doings so as to avoid bringing interference and damage to Sino-U.S.relations," Qin said.
