Brazil beats DPRK 2-1 in women's soccer
Adjust font size:

Brazil scored two small-angle goals in the first half and won the match against DPR Korea 2-1 on Saturday.

The Brazilians dominated the first half in the match, but captain RI Kum Suk's last minute shot illustrated the perseverance and power of the DPR Koreans.

Midfielder Daniela fired home the first goal in the 14th minute, when DPR Korean goalkeeper Jon Myong Hui failed to hold the ball after a fatal mistake in defense.

Eight minutes later, forward Marta made it 2-0 through a powerful shot under a similar circumstance.

Marta, two-time FIFA World Player of the Year, freaked the DPR Korean goalkeeper out in additional time, threatening to fire home another goal.

DPR Korea started to find form and showed stronger physicality after the break. In the 61st minute, midfielder Ri Um Suk launched a powerful shot after a few consecutive passes near the box, but the ball skewed slightly wide to the right of the net.

DPR Korea continue to intensify offensiveness in the last five minutes, replacing midfielder Kim Kyong Hwa with forward Kim Ok Sim, but the move was too late.
