IOC provisionally suspends Ukraine's Blonska for positive
Adjust font size:

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thursday decided to provisionally suspend Ukraine heptathlon athlete Lyudmila Blonska following her positive test during the Beijing Olympic Games.

In both A and B samples from the Beijing Games silver medalist, the same banned substance Methyltestosterone was found, said the IOC in a statement.

Thus IOC disciplinary commission met on Thursday to decide that Blonska was temporarily banned from all competitions with immediate effect and stripped of her accreditation, which means she won't be able to compete in Friday's long jump final.

The IOC Executive Board will make the final decision.

Blonska finished second in the women's heptathlon behind compatriot Natalya Dobrynska on Saturday.

It was the second time Blonska failed a doping test. She served a doping suspension between 2003-05 and could face life-time ban after this second offence.

Four athletes have been kicked out of the Aug. 8-24 games so far over doping offences. They are women's 400m hurdles defending champion Fani Halkia of Greece, DPR Korean shooter Kim Jong Su, Spanish cyclist Isabel Moreno and Vietnamese gymnast Thi Ngan Thuong Do.
