Stubbs breaks yet another record
Adjust font size:

British archer John Stubbs is at it again. Days after breaking the world record during the ranking round, he broke the Paralympic Games record in the Open category of the Men's Individual Compound at the Olympic Green Archery Field on Thursday.

Stubbs, who was competing against Eric Bennett of the United States in the 1/8 elimination round, hit the bulls eye on nine out of 12 occasions (scoring 10 points each).

Despite Bennett offering stubborn resistance, Stubbs won the match 117-114 to qualify for the quarterfinals.

"I am over the moon after breaking my first Paralympic and world records," said Stubbs after the match. "Two years of hard work have paid off," he added.

Stubbs said he felt confident going into the match against Bennett.

"I was nervous at first. I tried to keep my emotions under control. Eric (Eric Bennett) is a good shooter and I just tried to keep my form. When I shot the last arrow I knew it hit the center even before it reached the target."

After the match, Bennett was all praise for Stubbs, saying that he deserved the win.

"I'm not disappointed by my performance today. I've played my best but he played better than me. He deserves what he got," said Bennett.
