Russian Sports, Tourism and Youth Policy Minister Vitaly Mutko expressed readiness to resign Tuesday after Russia's poor performance at just-concluded Vancouver Winter Olympics.

However, his resignation won't bring any advantages for the country's sports, the minister added.

"I will resign quietly, if specifically my resignation is the issue, although I don't know whether sport will gain anything from that," Mutko told reporters.

Russia recorded a dismal performance in Vancouver, taking only three golds, four silvers and six bronzes to finish 11th in the number of golds and sixth in the overall medals standings.

"Our results in the Olympic Games is not a failure. It is the objective reality," said the minister.

"If I am the problem, I know what I must do and how. But it is neither one particular person, nor other people, that are to blame," he added.

President Dmitry Medvedev on Monday called for a drastic change in the system of athlete training, as well as resignation of officials responsible for preparing Russian athletes for the Winter Olympics.

Russia hopes to make a remarkable comeback at the 2014 Winter Olympics, which is to be held in its Black Sea resort of Sochi.
