Regarded as the greatest badminton player of all time, Lin Dan became the first man to win back-to-back Olympic singles gold medals following his previous success in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. In 2012 he also became the first man in 33 years to win the All England Open five times, in addition to winning his fifth German Open.

The 29-year-old hit headlines again when he held a grand wedding ceremony on Sept. 23, 2012, in Beijing. Lin and his wife Xie Xingfang were formerly called "The golden couple" of Chinese badminton prior to Xie's retirement in 2009.
