Sichuan center Han Xu retains WCBA MVP

China international center Han Xu retained the 2024-2025 Women's Chinese Basketball Association (WCBA) league's Most Valuable Player (MVP) award on Tuesday.

During the regular season, Han averaged 17.4 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.4 blocks for Sichuan in 21.7 minutes of playing time per game, shooting 60.6 percent from the field as Sichuan topped the 12-team Group A with a 31-1 record.

Other award winners had already been announced, with Sichuan coach Milos Paden named Coach of the Year for his team's impressive regular-season run.

Helping her team finish fourth in Group A, Shanxi guard Chen Yujie was named Rookie of the Year with an average of 11.7 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 25.5 minutes of action per game in the regular season. In the playoffs, she improved her average stats to 16.8 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.0 assists in 32.1 minutes per game as Shanxi reached the semifinals.

The Best Overseas Player award went to Kamilla Cardoso, who posted an average of 20.8 points, 10.2 rebounds and 3.3 assists on 64.7 percent shooting in 31.4 minutes per game to help Shanghai finish fifth in Group A. Cardoso, selected third overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft, averaged 16.7 points, 15.0 rebounds and 3.2 assists in 33.9 minutes per game in the playoffs as Shanghai made the last eight.

With the WCBA semifinals underway, Sichuan and Dongguan have taken a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five series. The second game is scheduled for Tuesday evening.
