Following the scandal, the Ministry of Agriculture said the Chinese central government would launch a one-year campaign to crack down on illegal additives in pig feed. So far, police in central China's Henan province have detained 96 people implicated in the tainted pork scandal, and Shuanghui said the incident has already cost them more than 12.1 billion yuan ($1.85 billion)."Lean-Meat Pig" refers to pigs feed with clenbuterol, an illegal additive also described as "lean meat powder". According to agricultural specialists, the banned supplement, which is used to produce leaner meat, can cause heart palpitations and dizziness in human beings. Earlier in March, traces of clenbuterol, the pig drug banned for use in China, were found in pigs raised in central China's Henan Province. Recently, subsidiary of Shuanghui Group, China's largest meat producer, was caught using tainted pork in its meat products. After the incident, "lean meat pig" and "lean meat powder" triggered nationwide discussion and criticism.
