Chen Lihua, born in 1941 in Beijing, started out with a furniture repair business. She then moved to Hong Kong in 1982, where she earned the first primary capital for her business. She founded Fu Wah International Group in Hong Kong in 1988. The group has developed into an industrial investment company that supports businesses including the construction and operation of luxury hotels, clubhouses, apartments, shopping malls and office buildings. In addition, Fu Wah Group opened a national private museum focusing on red sandalwood artworks in 1999. Chen received an honorary doctorate in humanities from the Savannah College of Art and Design.
