After a disputable four-and-a-half year managerial career for the England national team, Fabio Capello resigned on Feb. 8 2012. His resignation followed a dispute with the Football Association regarding team captain Terry's being axed. Infamous for his steel fist in cultivating a highly self-disciplined team, Capello was once upon a time a well-established player himself. The man has a wide experience derived from his managerial spells with Milan, Real Madrid, Roman, Juventus and England.

During his time as England manager (starting in December 2008), he successfully led the team to the 2010 FIFA World Cup, but got knocked out in the second round, and 2012 European Championship. Despite the fact that he has been heavily criticized for his conservative strategies, he is recognized as the most successful winning coach in the team's history, setting a record of 28 wins, 8 draws and 6 defeats in 42 matches. He makes an annual £6.5 million, the highest salary in the team's history.
