Emperor Yang of Sui's Tomb, one of the 'Top 10 Chinese archaeological discoveries in 2013' by China.org.cn

Emperor Yang of Sui's Tomb [Xinhua]

Located in Xihu Town, in Yangzhou City in Jiangsu Province, the two brick tombs belong to Emperor Yang of the Sui Dynasty (569-618) and his wife. The tomb is only 4.98 meters long from north to south, and 5.88 meters long from east to west, which is smaller than many non-royal tombs of the period. More than 200 objects have been unearthed, including jade, bronzes and pottery. Besides, the unearthed teeth and human bones were confirmed as belonging to Emperor Yang and his wife. The objects are a match with historical documents too. Rare relics like a jade waist belt and a bronze chime bell have also been found.
