# Heard Island Volcano

Heard Island is located 4,100 kilometers southwest of Western Australia and contains one of Australia's two currently active volcanoes. The island is composed of limestone and debris from volcanic eruptions. In 1996, the Australian government made a management plan, forbidding any entry without permission to prevent the natural environment being destroyed.
