Are you ready for the big outdoors? Take a break at various camping spots around Beijing. The best time for camping lasts from late spring until early autumn.

Camp sites

Just one hour north of town lie some great spots with towering mountains, sublime waterfalls, and vast wilderness.

Camping Beijing (www.campingbeijing.com)

Camping Beijing, comprised of 100 lots and 10 bungalows about 50km north of the city centre. A lot for three people costs 195 yuan per night, includes 24 hours security and the use of a hot water and showers.

Yunmengshan (www.yunmengshan.net)

Straddling Miyun Country and Huairou district, about 85km north of the city centre, is the forest park Yunmengshan. At the park’s main gates, ask for directions to the campsite. For more information about camping there, please refer to Camping under the clouds.

Green Dragon Gorge (www.bjhr.gov.cn/eng/qinglongxia.htm).

Green Dragon Gorge in Huairou district is another great spot to camp.

Linshan Mountain

The highest mountain in the Beijing area, Lingshan Mountain has an average temperature of 12 degrees Celsius lower than downtown Beijing. The cool weather allows slumbers under starry skies. More info available here.

U-do Adventure

U-do Adventure (www.udoadventure.com) & Mountainyoga (www.mountainyoga.cn)

U-do Adventure organizes alpine trekking and camping around Beijing while Mountainyoga offers camping retreats by the Great Wall under Native American tepees.
