The interior design of the Macao Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo Park recently won the 2010 Communications Design Award in the German Red Dot Design Awards, according to the Preparatory Office of Macao at the Shanghai World Expo on Aug. 8.

The preparatory office said the professional jury of the current Red Dot Design Awards selected 610 prize-winning works out of more than 6,000 pieces from 44 countries and regions. The prize won by the interior design of the Macao Pavilion belongs to the field of communications design and the reason is that the interior design of the Macao Pavilion perfectly interacted with the story presented by the pavilion, which is very creative.

The Macao Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo, titled "Rabbit Lantern," takes the shape of a rabbit lantern with a huge 360-degree circular theater inside. Visitors are able to "cross" through the history of Macao in the past 400 years through the 20-minute journey along the two spiral ramps to understand and witness the blending of Chinese and Western cultures as well as the social and economic development of Macao in the "Macao Story."

The Red Dot Design Awards, founded by a well-known German design association, has a history of more than 50 years and has become an international recognized design award. The award is divided into three fields, including product design, communications design and design concept.

According to sources, the current prize-winning works will soon be exhibited at the Red Dot Design Museum in Germany and on the official Web site of Red Dot.
