For those who are not satisfied with their appearance, South Korea's beauty industry might seem like the ideal answer. But after a series of complaints, the Foreign Ministry is warning Chinese citizens of the potential risks of getting plastic surgery abroad.

Going under the knife abroad, has its risks.

The Ministry warned that a lack of information and language difficulties, has led to a rising number of plastic surgery disputes, with some cases proving to be irreversible.

Ma Jiguang, Orthopedics Surgeon of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, said, "A girl had unsuccessful eyelid surgery in South Korea. She went to many hospitals, but the doctors had no remedy and she came to us, but we could do nothing either."

The Foreign Ministry warns Chinese citizens to gather sufficient information before deciding on getting surgery in a foreign country. According to the Ministry, having the same plastic surgery done in South Korea, costs at least three times more than doing it in China.

Ma said, "State-owned hospitals charge 3 thousand yuan for standard eyelid surgery. In South Korea, it would be over 10 thousand yuan."

The Foreign Ministry stressed the importance of understanding the details of a contract, confirming the process and after care, as well as expenses and potential risks. It also warned Chinese citizens to be wary of exaggerated advertisements and language ambiguities.
