People wear new clothes during Spring Festival as a way to celebrate the start of everything new in the new year. Today we're going to throw some light on the traditional Mongolian gowns and check out how they are made.

In the Inner Mongolia Museum in Hohhot, the capital city of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, craftsmen are demonstrating how traditional Mongolian gowns are made. It is a careful work. To make the stitched pieces look like one, the patterns must be aligned together.

Next up are the lines. It needs three to four colors to blend softly into the tiny lines.

Compared to the men's garments, women's gowns look more colorful and delicate. Auspicious patterns like flowers, phoenix and dragons are often embroidered. A single flower petal needs at least three shades to bring it to life.

Xu Lixia, visitor, said, "This is my first time to see so many kinds of Mongolian gowns all together. They are very beautiful. Also, different styles represent customs of different areas."

However, customs and traditions are more and more mingled with modern elements. Some women's gowns are made shorter for daily convenience. And boots with high heels are the accessory of choice.

Stepping out of display windows, the traditional gowns are making their way back into every-day fashion.
