Chocolate and fashion came together on a catwalk of confection on Saturday, as part of the 10th International Chocolate Festival in the Portuguese city of Obidos. With a theme of Walt Disney films, the winning designer received a trip to Disneyland Paris.

Models took to the catwalk wearing fairytale-inspired designs, with some tasty additions.

The special catwalk show in the Portuguese city of Obidos featured dresses by fourteen designers -- all competing for the top prize of a trip to Disneyland Paris.

Luckily for organisers, March temperatures in Portugal are still on the chilly side - vital for the choc couture to keep its shape.

Telmo Henrique Correia, mayor of Obidos, said, "This catwalk show mixes chocolate with fashion and art, and the scenic arts. All these aspects will be featured in tonight's show."

At the end of the show, the jury plumped for the Princess Mulan dress - a striking costume featuring a short silver skirt and a bodice studded with chocolate.

Carolina Gaspar, winning designer, said, "We came up with a list of princesses that we wanted to work on. We decided to go with Mulan because we could explore the other aspects of a princess, the warrior side, and the working side."

But as the designers found, making clothes from chocolate presents one or two challenges.

Sara Gueltes, fashion student, said, "We'd never sewn chocolate onto clothes before. That was hard because it's chocolate, so it melts, it breaks, and so sometimes we had to do everything again. But it was really fun."

Helping them turn their creations into reality were dozens of top chocolate chefs. They worked flat out make cakes and desserts, and build castles, cars, and other figures for the show.

The three weeks of chocolate-filled fun includes demonstrations in chocolate cooking, chocolate sculpting, chocolate exhibitions, and of course chocolate tasting.

Competitions will also be held for the best chocolate sculpture and the most original recipe.
