Over 10,000 security staff have been deployed to ensure law and order amid the mass rally in Thailand's capital Bangkok, Police Major General Piya Utayo, spokesman for the Metropolitan Police Bureau, said Saturday.

These security forces largely consist of police men, the spokesman said on TV.

It is worrying that?the red-shirted core leaders won't be able to control the ongoing scattering rally, Police Major General Piya told state-run NBT TV station at about 3:00 p.m. local time.

Amid the hot whether it is feared that the red-shirted protesters will clash with the public who are disagreed with the mass rally, he said.

The majority of the red shirts in the capital city are now gathering at the Rathchprasong Intersection and in front of the NBT TV station's headquarters in downtown Bangkok.

Several shopping malls nearby the rally site at intersection have temporarily closed due to the ongoing rally.

Moreover, the red shirts have threatened to keep rallying at the intersection for a couple of more days.

Tens of thousands of red-shirted people, many of them supporters of the ousted former Thai premier Thaksin Shinawatra, have stormed into Bangkok since March 12, demanding the prime minister to dissolve the lower House of parliament to pave the way for a new general election.

The traffic situation in the capital is being largely affected by the red-shirted rally.
