A replica of the Soldier-Liberator Monument from Tallinn has been unveiled on the eve of the May 9 Victory Day in Russia's Krasnaya Polyana near Sochi, the place of the 2014 Winter Olympics.

The original monument, built on July 22, 1947, was made of bronze with its main body as a Soviet soldier statue. It was removed from its place in the Tallinn military cemetery in 2007 after a fierce confrontation between the Estonian capital's authorities and local pro-Russian groups.

The replica has been placed in front of the World War II museum in a local school in Krasnaya Polyana.

The monument was rebuild thanks to support by Russian billionaire Alexander Lebedev and development companies involved in construction of the Olympics infrastructure. Local residents made their donations too.
