The Mexican Navy Ministry (Semar) presented Wednesday 30 allegedly captured members of the Gulf drug Cartel, who were detained in Tamaulipas state in the northeast of the country.

During a press conference in the Navy's hangar, Semar spokesman Jose Luis Vergara said that the criminals were captured during a clash in the cities of Matamoros and Reynosa, Tamaulipas.

Vergara said that their capture was done thanks to information gotten by the intelligent work of the Semar and the exchange of information with the Investigation and National Security Center (Cisen), in order to dismantle operative networks of criminal groups.

Vergara said they also seized 43 weapons, 10 short guns, two rocket launchers, 318 chargers, 21 grenades, 9,981 cartridges, 10 helmets, 10 bullet-proof vests, more than 558,000 Mexican pesos (some 44,462 U.S. dollars), 3,343 dollars, two vehicles, 44 labels of the Gulf Cartel, communication equipment and military uniforms.

The detainees and the seized articles were presented to the General Prosecutor's Office to carry out correspondent investigations.
