China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin and Kazakh Prime Minister Karim Masimov pledged Thursday to strengthen bilateral cooperation in economics and trade and energy.

"China will work with Kazakhstan to ensure the sound construction of major joint energy projects, seek cooperation potential in clean energy," said Jia, chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee.

He also called for closer cooperation in non-energy sectors such as transportation, finance, science and technology, agriculture and infrastructure construction and border trade.

China-Kazakhstan trade surged by 51.8 percent year on year in the first nine months of 2009 to 14.7 billion U.S. dollars, Chinese official figures show.

Jia, who is here for an official good-will visit, hailed bilateral political and economic ties, noting the two sides carried out good coordination on security issues and multilateral affairs, which helped safeguard their common interests and promoted regional peace, stability and development.

He appreciated Kazakhstan's support to China on the Taiwan issue, Tibet-related affairs and the strike on the "three evil forces" of separatism, extremism and terrorism.

Masimov agreed with Jia's remarks on bilateral ties and vowed to further cooperation in economics and trade, energy and other sectors.
