The death toll from the recent flash-floods and landslides in the central and southerb Philippines rose to 51, with recent fatalities in the central Philippine province of Negros Oriental, officials said Monday.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council ( NDRRMC) reported that as of Monday 6:00 a.m. local time, the heavy rains brought by the northeast monsoon and the tailend of a cold front, displaced 1.5 million people in central and southern regions of the country. Twelve people remained missing, while eight were wounded. The NDRRMC said 549,852 people are now in evacuation centers nationwide.

It has caused damage to about 1.62 million pesos (36.65 million U.S. dollars) worth of crops, infrastructure and property. Several roads in the provinces of Samar, Leyte and Surigao del Sur are impassable.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) forecast the northeast monsoon and tail-end of a cold front will continue to bring rains over northern and central Luzon provinces. Widespread rains will pour over Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. The agency warned this may lead to flash-floods and landslides in Palawan, Bicol region, eastern Visayas and northern Mindanao.
