Visiting Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and Hungarian President Pal Schmitt agreed in Budapest Saturday to push forward China-Hungary relations and cooperation.

During his meeting with Schmitt, Wen said that his choosing Hungary as the first stop of his Europe tour is aimed at conveying China's confidence in Hungary's economy, broadening bilateral cooperation in various fields and boosting China's ties with Central and East European countries.

Noting that the two sides harvested rich fruits during the visit, Wen said that Beijing and Budapest should maintain the momentum and raise the bilateral relationship to a higher level.

The premier said that during the trip, he felt the profound feelings of the Hungarian people toward the Chinese people, and that the two sides should make concerted efforts to let the young generations carry on the traditional friendship between the two countries.

Schmitt, for his part, said that since Hungary and China established diplomatic relations over 60 years ago, the two sides have always trusted each other and promoted the development of their friendly and cooperative ties.

China is Hungary's reliable partner, and Hungary is thankful to China for its strong support, the president said, adding that Wen's visit will certainly propel bilateral exchanges and cooperation into a new phase and thus bring more benefits to the two peoples.

Earlier on Saturday, Premier Wen delivered a speech at the China-Central and East European Countries Economic and Trade Forum, making a five-point proposal to enhance China's cooperation with countries in Central and Eastern Europe.
