Top Chinese legislator Wu Bangguo met with Wade Mark, Trinidad and Tobago's House of Representatives speaker, and Timothy Hamel-Smith, president of the Caribbean country's senate on Friday.

Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress(NPC), the country's top legislature, reviewed the smooth growth in relations between China and Trinidad and Tobago, which established diplomatic ties in 1974.

Wu highlighted the two countries' frequent high-level visits, deeper political trust, fruitful economic cooperation, closer people-to-people exchanges and sound cooperation on international issues.

China appreciates Trinidad and Tobago's adherence to the one-China policy and support for the country on issues related to Taiwan and Tibet, Wu said.

China attaches great importance to developing ties with Trinidad and Tobago and bringing more benefits to the two peoples.

On parliamentary ties, Wu said China's NPC would like to work more closely with Trinidad and Tobago's parliament to learn from each other on legislature, supervision and state governance.

Mark and Hamel-Smith said the delegation includes several distinguished statesmen and lawmakers of different parties of Trinidad and Tobago, which reflected the common aspiration of country's various circles to develop ties with China.

They said the delegation had been impressed by China's remarkable economic achievements and dynamic society.

They underscored the parliament's commitment to working more closely with China's NPC and boost pragmatic cooperation.
