Hu Huaibang, chairman of China Development Bank (CDB), delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the BRICS Seminar on Governance in Quanzhou, Fujian Province on August 17.

Hu highlighted the significance of the BRICS partnership and its influence not only on member countries but also worldwide. He said that, over the past ten years, the concept of the BRICS partnership had enjoyed popular support among citizens of the involved countries, and boosted the exchanges and cooperation. Now, the BRICS countries were enhancing their global influence as a major driving force for globalization.

Hu also called for the BRICS countries to enhance governance through reforms, and strengthen the partnership with increasing openness and inclusiveness. He emphasized that the BRICS countries should shoulder the responsibilities to build a community of a shared common future for all humankind and thus create a brighter future for the global cause.

As the largest development financial organization worldwide, CDB had long been committed to promoting pragmatic cooperation among the BRICS countries. In the first half of 2017, its aggregate loan balance for international business was US$321.2 billion, among which US$57.8 billion (18 percent of the total) was for the BRICS countries. A total of 539 government officials, financial organization leaders and company managers from the BRICS countries had participated in the discussions organized by CDB. In addition, the bank granted 13 BRICS youths scholarships or subsidies for them to study in China.

Hu stressed that CDB would adhere to openness and inclusiveness to deepen the communication and cooperation of BRICS countries in trade, finance, infrastructure, and culture, and promote BRICS communication in governance and major projects with like-minded think tanks and developmental financing.
