CAIRO, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian on Wednesday agreed in a phone conversation that the current sensitive situation necessitates advancing comprehensive political solutions to promote regional security, the Egyptian presidency said in a statement.
The two leaders reiterated the significance of resuming negotiations on the nuclear program between Washington and Tehran, and emphasized the need to promote the establishment of a weapons of mass destruction-free zone in the Middle East.
Sisi reaffirmed Egypt's rejection of the recent Iranian missile attack targeting a U.S. base in Qatar, adding he condemns any actions that jeopardize the sovereignty of states, particularly Arab and Islamic countries.
He also commended the announcement of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Iran, urging all parties to adhere to this agreement following the regional escalation that almost plunged the region into widespread chaos and violence.
Both leaders also reviewed Egypt's intensive efforts with various concerned parties, mainly the United States, to curb the escalation and restore calm and stability to the region.
The Iranian president thanked Egypt for its supportive stances in restoring regional stability and preventing bloodshed among all parties, according to the Egyptian statement. Enditem
