VIENTIANE, June 26 (Xinhua) -- The National Assembly (NA) of Laos approved 10 significant laws aimed at modernizing the legal system and promoting sustainable national development in response to evolving social and economic conditions.
These important laws were approved during the ninth ordinary session of the Lao National Assembly's ninth legislature on Wednesday, chaired by Vice President of the NA Chalern Yiapaoher.
Of the 10 laws approved by the National Assembly, five are newly enacted to support national development across several key sectors. These include the Law on Cybersecurity, which aims to strengthen digital security and enhance protection against online threats, and the Law on Social Welfare, designed to improve support for vulnerable populations and enhance social assistance systems.
The Law on Public Prosecutors was passed to promote fairness and integrity within the justice system. The Law on General Education seeks to raise the quality of education and ensure equal access to learning opportunities nationwide. Meanwhile, the Law on Cultivation focuses on modernizing agricultural practices and advancing sustainable farming.
In addition to the new laws, the National Assembly also approved amendments to five existing laws. The Law on Medicines and Medical Products was revised to improve the regulation and safety of pharmaceuticals. The Law on Income Tax was updated to promote economic growth and ensure a fairer tax system. Amendments to the Law on Signs aim to enhance clarity and public communication standards. Revisions to the Law on the Supreme People's Court are intended to improve judicial effectiveness, while updates to the Law on Irrigation focus on better water management and increased agricultural productivity.
