JAKARTA, June 26 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated virtually via video conference the operations and groundbreaking of clean energy power plants in 15 provinces on Thursday.
The projects, powered by solar and geothermal energy with a total capacity of 379.7 megawatts, reflect the country's commitment to transitioning toward sustainable energy sources. Five of the power plants broke ground on Thursday, while the remainder have already begun operations.
Prabowo emphasized that Indonesia possesses extraordinary natural resources, which can be harnessed to support the country's energy needs. He also noted that energy is a very important part of the sovereignty of a nation, especially new and renewable energy.
"Today is proof of Indonesia's ability to achieve energy self-sufficiency, which is very important for our future," Prabowo said after inaugurating the projects.
According to Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, the power plants are spread across Indonesia's western, central, and eastern regions. The total investment in these clean energy projects amounts to 25 trillion rupiah (approximately 1.5 billion U.S. dollars), he added. Enditem
