BANGUI -- Nearly 20 people were killed and several others injured in a stampede triggered by a power transformer explosion at Barthelemy Boganda High School in Bangui, the capital of the Central African Republic (CAR), on Wednesday, the country's National Assembly said in a statement on Thursday.
The National Assembly said the explosion caused panic among exam candidates, resulting in a stampede as they attempted to flee. The victims were taken to various medical facilities in the capital. (CAR-Explosion)

MEXICO CITY -- At least 10 people, including children, were killed in a gunfight Tuesday night at a patron saint festival in Irapuato, a city in central Mexico's Guanajuato state, President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed Wednesday morning.

BERLIN -- A 27-year-old man was shot dead by police on Thursday morning in Wangen, the southern German state of Baden-Wuerttemberg, according to a joint statement by local authorities.
The man, who had sought asylum in Germany, was wanted under a warrant issued by the public prosecutor's office in the city of Ulm. He had been ordered to serve a prison sentence for an assault offence. (Germany-Police-Shooting)

ISLAMABAD -- At least four people were killed and 19 others injured in rain-related accidents in Pakistan's eastern Punjab province over the past 24 hours, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said Thursday.
