LUSAKA, June 27 (Xinhua) -- The Zambian government has begun preparations to evacuate its nationals from Israel amid tensions with between Israel and Iran.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mulambo Haimbe told Parliament on Friday that a total of 177 Zambians have been registered and prioritized for evacuation through the Taba border crossing into Egypt.
"It is important to note that the evacuation has not yet commenced. However, no fatalities have been recorded, and all necessary preparations have been made to ensure the safe and timely relocation of affected individuals," Haimbe said in a statement.
While acknowledging the current ceasefire between Israel and Iran, the minister said that the government is making contingency plans in case the truce collapses.
Haimbe added that four Zambians currently in Iran have been advised to exercise maximum caution, and the ministry is also preparing to evacuate them if the situation worsens. Enditem
