ALMATY, June 27 (Xinhua) -- The construction of a nuclear power plant (NPP) in Kazakhstan is expected to take seven years from the start of work at a designated site, Kazinform news agency reported Friday.
The statement was made by Almassadam Satkaliyev, chairman of the Atomic Energy Agency of Kazakhstan.
According to Satkaliyev, the cost of the project will be determined based on a feasibility study.
He also noted that Kazakhstan and Russia plan to sign an intergovernmental agreement on the NPP construction by the end of this year.
A national referendum on the NPP project was held on Oct. 6, 2024, in which more than 5.5 million people, or 71.12 percent of voters, supported the initiative. Enditem
