A survey shows that currently many young people are keen on communication through microblogging or other platforms on the Internet, rather than have face-to-face contact, China Youth Daily reported.

According to the online survey conducted by Social Survey Center affiliated to China Youth Daily, 84.6% of the 1721 participants held that right now Chinese youth lacks "real-world" communication.

Specifically, those young people chat smoothly online, whereas they have little contact in the real world. They often pick up cell phones to send messages or browse microblogs when communicating with others; some even fear eye contact when talking with others.

26.8% of the respondents were born in the 1970s; 40.3% in the 1980s and 20.9% in the 1990s.

74.8% of the participants believed that only through real-world communication can people truly understand each other and themselves.
